MAE1331
DESIGN
Welcome to Mae1331.Design. Here you will find some of my professional work, as well as a few personal drawings and writings. My hope is that this site will give you a good indication of my creative talents and design sensibilities, a bit of who I am. It is meant to be organic in nature, growing, changing; new work, ideas, thoughts added as they come to the fore. Change is,
after all, the only constant in life.
Below is the new 2019 Vashon Island Fire and Rescue (VIFR) Annual Community Report. This year the Chief wanted to do something a little different in an attempt to engage the community to a greater degree, and offer more information regarding Vashon's on going emergency safety community and status. He took the opportunity to include fire safety tips, an updated burn permit, and other valuable nuggets of information. This ACR is 32 pages with story illustrations by Trevor Stearns and sketches by the Chief himself. My thanks to Chief Krimmert for the sketches, for his support and allowing me so much creative flexibility and being so easy to work with and for. A great, fun project again beautifully printed by TCC Printing in Seattle, who were literally boarding up their shop (rioters) as the printing was underway.
Please note this year's 'stamp' (see back cover) is to honor fire fighter Mike Kirk who has volunteered with Vashon Fire for over 50 years. For more information on the Vashon Fire District visit: http://www.vifr.org.

Below is the 2018 Vashon Island Fire and Rescue (VIFR) Annual Community Report. This eight page 7.5" x 7.5" booklet features wonderfully done hand sketches by Chief Krimmert. My thanks to Chief Krimmert for the sketches, for allowing me so much creative flexibility and being so easy to work with and for. A great, fun project again beautifully printed by TCC Printing in Seattle.
Please note this year's 'stamp' (see back cover)
is to honor retired fire fighter Mark Larsen.

Stamp honoring retired fire fighter Mark Larsen, 2018. We had postal permission to use our own visual 'stamp' as long as bulk permit accurate.

Recruitment postcards. Postcard on the left accompanied the 2018 ACR mailer and was 'dotted' inside before mailing. The postcard on the right was an alternative, but recruitment personnel at VIFR has decided to use it on the VIFR website and facebook page. Concept, design, execution.
Below is the 2017 Vashon Island Fire and Rescue (VIFR) Annual Community Report. This three panel 7" x 26" folded mailer is very different from the previous report, but the Chief and I agreed that approaching the annual report with fresh eyes and ideas each year is essential to keep the projects appealing and intriguing. This year's approach is succinct, colorful, fun, covers all pertinent information as well as including some perks for Vashon homeowners. Thank you, Chief, for allowing me such creative leniency. This was a great fun project that gave me the opportunity to illustrate my favorite fire truck: the huge, lovely, hard to maneuver Tender. 2017 VIFR mailer was beautifully printed by TCC Printing in Seattle.
